One Chick hatched in the electric skillet! **UPDATE**

Remember some of those hatching will probably be roos so why it may seem you have alot of EE chicks you may only get a few pullets. Out of 7 EEs given to me this last summer only 2 were pullets. Of course, it could go the other way too.

Thanks for reminding me, one lil guy you can see the lil spur nubs on his/her legs already. I say his/her cause one of my RIR hens had spurs, she was an egg eater, too:rolleyes:

Today, the second green egg was zipping but seemed to need help so I did and its a very large chick w/club feet...at work now and waiting to see if the feet/toes uncurl at all. DD said it was "crying loudly" this morning after I came to work...told her why.

I saw a post recently about a chick with curled toes and someone said band-aid shoes were a quick and simple answer- you could give that a whirl!

Best of luck, and way to go!!

You could take a plastic dish (like from cool whip) and cut the bottom out just big enough for the foot to be laid out on and then cut up the side a bit so you can anchor it to the leg. Then straighten the toes out and tape them to the bottom. When done use vetwrap or something that will breath to wrap the whole thing to hold it onto the leg. I wish I had pics of the one we did at the neighbors but, there wasn't anyone extra to take the pics. One person held and the other taped.

I have read hours upon hours of how-to's on hatching chicks. So many rules and so many instructions and not to's and so on..
A few summers ago my city bred grandson came to my home and saw the green eggs. He wanted to hatch one and since he had no incubator I told him how the chickens do it and he wanted to try it.
I laughed with him on this venture and he so gently put the egg between his legs as they got into the car to return to the big city.
when he got home he put the egg on a heating pad and he turned it each morning and when he got home from school and before he went to bed.
THE EGG HATCHED.
so.. go figure.
