I have 5 chicks, 5 1/2 weeks old.

The 2 Ameraucanas, 1 Speckled Sussex, and 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte are all about the same size.

The 1 White Leghorn is only about half as big.

They all seem to eat well, are active and happy. This is my first time as a chick mom, so I don't know if the different breeds just grow differently, but based on the expected adult weights I'm surprised that the Leghorn is so small.

Any cause for concern? Perhaps she's just petite?

Thanks for any opinions.

i have 26 straight run buff orpingtons, and they are growing like weeds. i have one runt, however, who is about 1/3 the size of the rest. i have no idea why. he/she eats, drinks, sleeps, and poops, and is still alive, so i'm waiting to see what happens. this chick is seriously tiny.

i think runts just happen. sometimes they make it, sometimes they don't.
