One chicken, two shades of brown?

I am new to backyard chickens so I still have so much unknown. These two eggs were laid a day apart, and I thought we only had one of our pullets laying- yet they seem diffferent shades. One is an almost rosy brown, and the other is a yellow brown.

Can one chicken lay eggs with varying shades?

A second pullet has just started squating today so I’m wondering if she happened to lay her first on the day our Red Star didn’t lay (she has laid every day for a week and a half so far) But I just don’t think it was her l.

You'll have to investigate! You may have someone else laying, but yes, it's possible for the shade to be a little different. Pigment/Dye is applied in the shell gland (as @aart says, "the spray booth" LOL) A lot goes into making eggs, sometimes one might be a little different.

All that said, I would take a guess you have another pullet that has come into lay, they can be sneaky like that

I would assume you have two laying. Nothing is ever definite, but usually mine will lay the same tone, but sometimes a little lighter and darker. But one will lay a browner one, and another a pinker one, etc.
