I have a problem where a sarama silky chick hatched last night after its five day old chick friend died the same day. Yesterday. So now is all alone but waiting for a two day overdue Appleyard duckling to hatch. I have given the chick some water and it has started to peck the chick grain. But putting this little chick under a brooder lamp in a box. Not happy. What is the longest time I can leave the chick inside the incubator whilst feeding and giving water through the day??

I think an incubator is too moist to keep chicks in too long. It won't like being moved especially if alone. Give it a mirror and maybe hang a feather duster until you can get it some company.

Funnily enough I have just done exactly that. With the feather duster a few loose feathers and a brooder lamp over a small box. Sadly the duckling did not make it so the little chick will be alone for another week until the neighbours other serama silkies hatch. I had no idea they were so small my 3 week old silkies are giants compared to this little one. Finally peace in the brooder box . I think he/she has fallen asleep

Aw, poor little chick. That's a good set up. It will be nice and bossy by time you get another chick for company. :)

Sorry about the duckling. :(
