Hi! I'm incubating some silkies and it's day 19. There was a power outage halfway through the incubation, so for about 8 hours the temperature fluctuated between 88-102 degrees while I tried to keep the eggs warm. I don't know if that really did anything, but now I have one silkie chick pipping and cheeping. I've had some later hatchers, but never an early one so I don't know what to do really. None of the others are pipping yet, it's just the one. Should I be worried about her? Is she just an early bloomer? Will she make it out okay? I wasn't expecting babies for another 3 days.... I heard that if they stop pipping it's okay, because early ones might still be absorbing the yolk and have to wait a bit again. Is that true? Thanks!

I would keep an eye one her, but a chick knows when it’s ready to hatch soo even if it a little early it’s fine in my opinion.

I can't see her yet, it's just a small pip so far and some rocking a peeping. It's not very strong peeping, just some small ones occasionally. That's why I'm worried she isn't ready yet. The temp is at 99.5 and the humidity is in the 60s, so I don't think she'll dry out, but I'm wondering if she's gonna take a rest and then hatch with the other ones later on. I've had some chicks do that, especially if they're weaker.

She won’t dry out if the membrane is not exposed. She is probably getting ready to hatch. I would not worry to much. Will you post a little picture of the pip?

A few more have started pipping and wiggling, too. Even in my second incubator there's some activity. I'm really stunned, I've never had any chicks hatch this early! Hopefully they'll all be okay!
