I am 2 weeks into having my hens. I check on them every morning before work and every evening when I get home and then again before bed. One e venting I got home and noticed immediately that one hen had her left eye closed so right away I flush it with fresh water (pharmacies were closed already to get an eye wash) Next day still closed, no swelling or redness - just closed. Next day get a saline eye wash, rinse, put on eye ointment - she’s opening and closing it but mainly keeping it closed. Fast forward, it’s been about 5 days of 2-3 times a day saline wash and ointment and although she opens it, it’s still mainly closed. Again no redness, no swelling. They are approximately 3 months old.

In the photo she looks flush because I had just rinsed it and afterwards it is a bit pink until the eye calms down from the saline. What should I do?

Welcome To BYC

Do you notice any other symptoms like coughing, sneezing, mucous?

When you rinse the eye, is there any pus or bubbles?
The eye itself looks o.k.?

I'd continue to keep the eye cleaned and the ointment in the eye.
Hard to know what's going on with her.
See that she's eating her chick starter well and drinking.

Is she getting around o.k. and not being picked at?

How did your hen do with this issue? I have a 10 week old that is keeping one eye closed but no other symptoms. Wondering if I should start some drops? I put EVP in the water and have tried feeding oregano and thyme to her.
