Hi guys! i just wanted to share my story about my RHW, blind in one eye chicken, Bertha. Bertha is one in three of my backyard chickens. she used to be at a old kinda gross barn where they never got any sunlight. i rescued her after building a tiny coop. i had her and my other ISA brown, Frannie. After a few weeks into winter, i convinced my parents to get a better coop. I then moved them into there and got a third chicken, Lorretta. At the time Bertha was at the barn, she developed some sort of eye sickness , a hard pus ball developed in her eye and it came back then left then came back then left. i didn’t have then money to take her to the vet so i found a all natural upper respiratory medicine and then seemed to clear up. but with the pus coming out, it left her blind. but she is like any other chicken. still free ranges, and finds her food and water. she is still too young to lay eggs. she is actually boss hen, too! i have one or two question though, does my coop look like it’s a pretty nice set up? And do you think that I would be able get a Bantam chick? my chickens mostly get free range almost every day or week or at least I try. My friend is a breeder and I wanted to get one once it is older. I hope you enjoyed my sister story of Bertha! If you have any questions just ask. Here is a picture of Bertha (left) Frannie (middle) and Lorretta (right)

image.jpg as you can see, it’s winter time here in MI! we are finally getting a break from the negatives and swooping in to the 30s and 40s for the rest of the week! my chickies get the heat lamp on when is below 15° not including wind chill. if you want to see better pictures of my chickies check out my other article or whatever it’s called meet my girls! thanks you spending a few minutes to read/answer my questions!:love:wee

They look happy and well cared for. I also in Missouri have been having below zero weather, I think it is affecting a lot of the country right now. We have a heat lamp on ours at night. I have a rooster right now who can not get up on the roost due to a leg injury, so one of his favorite hens keeps him company under the heat lamp on the floor. I have had chickens for about 29 years now and there is always something new to learn.
My grandmother always had chickens when I was a kid.
I also have a chicken who is pretty old who has a cataract in one eye, she does fine and is pretty much a pet as she doesn't lay anymore but she does take care of any baby chicks whose mother won't take care of them.

aw that’s so cute! what do you think about adding a bantam?

Jack is a show bird....I am using him for a second year in a row for breeding....I wanted a son that was better than him, but I did not get one last year....so I have to kindly turn down the bantam offer....
