Hi everyone. I hatched out 7 of 9 bantam polish eggs that where shipped in. One of these chicks only has one eye. It does not seem to have an eye slit at all. It does appear to have a dark area under the skin that I suspect to be an eyeball.
I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen. Anyone have any ideas what's up?

I have read of chickens with scissors beak missing an eye. It is a misshapen skull that causes the crossed beak & sometimes the eyes are affected too. Apparently it is possible for a chick to be hatched with a genetic eye defect.

If the eye is the only problem I think the chick can have a normal life.

I have a bird that is blind in one eye. She is doing ok. She is 2 yrs old now.

i work on an organic farm where we have 16 chickens, one of the roosters is blind in one eye from an accident, probably being pecked by the bigger roo or a chicken. he gets around just fine, he just becomes startled if you come up behind him on his bad side. hes been like that since he was young and he's now 5.
i think your chick will do just fine
