I added a new bird to my breeding pen and broke the rule of not introducing them over a few days first. I was busy and got sloppy. My best rooster ended up with an eye pecked out and just about got scalped. I seperated him out until he healed, divided out in the same pen so he could still be next to his girls. Took out the offending girl and she was dinner last night.

Question, he now cowers to himself. This is my best rooster. Think he will get his mojo back with time or let him go to his reward??

I had one of my roosters loose an eye and I tried keeping him for a while but he was very fearful of anything on his blind side. Also he would accidentally kill baby chicks by stepping on them or running into them so I ate him. Your rooster might pull himself together after a while just keep him separated until completely healed and try introducing them again and see how he acts

Hard to tell, give him some time like that, at least several days. Then reintroduce him to the girls and observe what happens.

If you really want to save him, pen him near and where he can see the girls, after some time he'll get his "mojo" back and be crowing all the time...then wait a little longer untill the hormones take over and he'll get his bravery (stupidity) back. then if he comes back well, you can make a "smooth" transition.
