My boyfriend's daughter and her family will be moving out of the house in May when we return to Montana and we will move into the house. Today the granddaughter saw a fox in the yard. Her dad opened a window enough to shoot the fox with a 22 rifle, but not before he lost 2 hens and 2 pullets. Last year was a bad year for losing chickens as there was a fox den with kits in the state park next door. I lost 6 out of 8 hens and a rooster. My neighbor lost 24 pullets.
Although it's rather expensive I have decided to set up electric poultry netting. I've watched lots of videos and it seems to work well. I could just build a pen set up like Fort Knox, but the girls wouldn't get all that much room to eat grass and find bugs. They'll still get a run and coop to get locked into at night but I'll have more peace of mind knowing that they are as safe as I can make them during the day while they range in a contained area.
