One has PIPPED!/HATCHED!!! Update...

You know, I was lookin at the calendar and the moon is waning. I dont like to do anything except housework when the moon is waning, darnit! I thought I had planned for them to hatch when the moon was waxing, am sure it would be much better. Anyway, still waiting! How long do you give them before you candle and check things out, its still early yet, but do you do it like on day 23 to see if there is any movement, or before that? And if there is, do you try to assist? The ones where I could see air cells, I drew lines around so I could see where it was in case anyone needed helllllp!

I would wait till day 23 to make sure you don't mess up the environment for the late bloomers. I would not consider helping a chick hatch that has not pipped on its own. There are times when they get stuck and that prevents them from moving enough to make the circle to break out but if they don't even pip, I would consider them as poor health risks.
The thing with full term eggs, movement is very hard to detect. They rest for long periods. I usually tap on the egg and them listen. Continue this for a while. If the chick is trying to break out you will hear it. You will also hear to peep. On tapping and no peeping is not a good sigh. Try again with several eggs at several intervals.

Getting the feel of your new incubator is always challenging.

If I were you, I would look for some eggs locally that don't have to be shipped. Try a new batch and keep as many notes from this hatch as you can remember regarding development of air cells and temp variations and what the humidity was during the hatch. I usually record the temp and humidity every several day to help me keep track. I also note the air cell size at candling. You can refer to the chart on the instruction sheet. All these things help you with your next hatch.

I hope you get some more to hatch. If not, it is important to open some of the eggs to see where they were in development. If you have lots of eggs that have fully developed chicks that did not pip the external shell, then they may have drown and that is to much humidity. Even low humidity chicks will usually pip but they may not be able
to complete the hatch.

Your instuction sheet has some very good troubleshooting information.

Still nothing this morn that I can see. Man, I thought everything was pretty much perfect except some humidity probs halfway thru, but it didnt seem that should have caused them to not hatch. Well, we will wait and see, they may surprise us. Cant believe that one popped out of there, like nobody's business, and nothin since. Just too odd!

Little one is doin fine, tho! Cute as a bugs ear! She has a stuffed cat, and a small disco lamp in with her the she snuggled against. I have her in a makeshift small box, since what I was PLANNING on was a bit bigger. Anyhow, she is preening and seems happy, sleepin the mornin away after eating a bit. Put a mirror in, but she was scared of it, seems happier without it, so just took it back out. lol

Well one of my friends turken/silkie crosses is now pipping! So I dont think its the bator issues, probably more the heat/shipping/sittin on porch issues.

I told disco chick she is gonna have a buddy, but its gonna be a FUNNY lookn buddy.

The naked neck is still zipping, its zipped all the way around the shell but is resting, so no action right now.

I couldnt wait any longer, I HAD to know on those eggs. I very carefully chipped a place in each egg, then followed up by what I saw.
Very dried up membrane next to the shell, and when I opened that...all yolks. No development in ANY except for ONE of Lexies, and that one was breach, looked like it died trying to pip to air cell which was on the other end.
I couldnt believe it, no development on ANY of them. How did this one make it thru so well, must be a lil miracle baby!
I am almost sure those over 100 temps just made all the dif in the world. I feel bad, cuz you worked SO hard gathering them up in that godawful heat. Well, anyway, had to let you know, looks like lil Lexie's baby is it for your group. I think I had ONE more egg from the friends group that I KNOW was good, the others were all ??? so will wait til probably Saturday nite or so to turn off the bator, since they really werent due til tomorrow anyhow.
I will get pics soon as I can.

Oh by the way, this lil cutie is about the quietest chirper I ever heard, she just does this lil faint..chirp, chirp, instead of that loud cheeeeeep you hear most of them do. lol

P.S> Just wanted everyone to know that Cyn does a fantastic job of packing her eggs, I couldnt believe how well they were insulated and padded. She did EVERYTHING on her part she possibly could to insure a hatch. Thanks, Cyn!

I know Miranda's and Lexie's were fertile. We always had a question about Velvet's anyway, but you only had a few of those. I bet the P.O. did some shaking and then them leaving them on the step in that heat just killed them before they had a chance. I doubt it was the bad eggs because then you would have seen at least some development in them. At least I think so. DARN! Do you want to try it again? Now, I have Caroline laying, too. What about the Silkie baby? Did it make it out at all?
Thanks for the endorsement, Jill. I just hate it that all that work went for naught! Weren't there about five from Lexie? I know Lexie's are all fertile since several people including myself already hatched; the fact that three didn't even start developing tells me that the embryo/blastoderm was damaged right at the beginning. And the bullseye on Miranda's is unmistakeable. Darn, darn, darn!!!! You let me know if you want to try another batch and we'll get more to you. This time, put a hold at the P.O. on all packages. At least the weather is cooler now. I'm sorry, Jill.
