one hatched and broody left the nest cold eggs!

We went out to the hen house this am and one chick has hatched, but the hen has left the nest. The eggs are cold and wondering if the other eggs will hatch? We don't have an incubator.

I would put a heat lamp on them and put a moist towel around them. Just don't let it touch them. Put a thermometer near them so you can adjust the heat lamp. They might still have a chance.

Ok Here's the next strange thing..
I went to check on my hen this morning and there's an empty egg as though a chick has hatched but no chick. They're in a very safe environment so no other animals could get into the nest. Did she eat the chick or could she be hiding the chick in her feathers? Completely confused!

Maybe something ate the egg? You could try searching the hen for it.

More than likely hiding quietly under mum having a nap, I never seen mine for 3 days but empty shells kept creeping out

Thanks! She's probably hiding it... I'll wait until tomorrow to check again. I hate to disturb her. This is her first sitting ...that we know of, we bought her from a woman that lost her home to the bank. She's been with us about a year. I think I'll let her and mother nature take over. Apparently she knows more than I do! LOL.

My first hatch was a clueless one with a broody silkie but it's addictive after the first one I started with 1 roo and 4 hens now I have 5 Roos 8 hens and 6 chicks with 19 eggs due to hatch lol
