We have 6 hens. Two are BSL, not positive about the other. We were getting 4 and 5 eggs a day for a while, then it tapered off to 2 or 3. We suspected they were laying some where other than the house.
Yesterday, we noticed that our only grey hen (the rest are black) disappeared about 2pm. We let them free range the back yard and barn during the day. She never came back to the house at dusk, so we thought something got her, although there was no evidence.
This morning, while in the barn working, she showed up. She hung around for about an hour then gone again. Not seen her all day.
I decided to do some looking. Upon moving a few bales of hay, I found the egg stash. 20 eggs.
Still have not seen that gray hen all day. May have to go start checking neighbor's sheds.
