My flock is down to one lonely hen. She's not yet a year old (a Wyandotte) and she just lost her roostmate to a hawk. I have 2 pullets (about 8 weeks) that I'd like to introduce. Would love some advice. Can't they all just get along???

i have the same question.

i have a lonely hen - 2 years old - and six 2 month olds. i want to put her in with them. ;/
 
I wouldn't advise it. Even if she's lonely she can still tear them up when establishing a pecking order. I would wait a few more weeks.

I concur with the previous post. 8 weeks is quite young. Can they have access to each other through a fence so they can start to become familar? I think the hen wouldn't be as lonely and the chicks would still be safe. Good luck to you!

They could be in the same run area or coop as long as they are kept divided in some manor. At 8 weeks that is too young to be around an older hen. There is a chance of your hen killing them at such a tender young age.

Hi and :welcome ! I'm so sorry you lost your bird to a hawk :( But I totally agree with what others are saying - it would be best to let them get used to each other through a fence first for awhile, at least until they're older. Sometimes they're able to sort out the pecking order with posturing and never really go at each other when you put them together! When I first got my polish hens I left them in a pen on their own where they could see my other girls for a month before introducing them, even though they were grown. When I let them out, the birds only scuffled a little and all was well :) They had managed to start sorting the new pecking order out right through the fence without any fighting.
