my chicken has been brooding and recently the chicks have hatched, last night we went out there and she had her first chick but her right eye was closed. she had a feather around her eye so i tried to gently take it off but it was stuck on her eye. any help?!? i know the pictures not the best but 🤷🏼‍♀️

oh!! we don’t know if she might’ve been protecting her chicks and got in a fight or if it’s from helping her chicks and they got her eye?

I would irrigate her eye twice a day with saline eye wash, and apply a dab of antibiotic ointment (Terramycin or plain Neosporin) to the eye. Are her nostrils dirty from a nasal drainage and dirt? Do you hear any sneezing or cough? Her eye could have been pecked or she could have gotten something stuck in her eye, but respiratory diseases can cause sticky eye drainage.

okay thanks so much! she doesn’t really like people touching her, let alone holding her, do you think since she’s taking care of the chicks/sitting a lot i can just quickly do it while she’s sitting?
