one of my chicks died

I am a new mom of what was 5 chicks 4 weeks old. They were all doing fine until last evening when I changed out their shavings in the temp. Housing I have them in untill we finish their house and digs. It is shaded and seems o.k.for now. The other four seem to be doing o.k. but this one just was struggling to breath and laying lifeless on her side. It was a humid hot day here(Wichita) so I am thinking maybe the heat got her. We tried cooling her with water but she could not be cooled so we ended her suffering. What do you all think?

It happens..Sometimes you never really know why. Could have been the heat, or maybe not.

Sorry you lost a chick. As you thought, it could have been too warm and humid. I don't have any clear answer, but I too lost two about a week apart at this age of the 23 I had. I didn't want it to spread to the others so I cleaned the litter, put electrolytes in the water and made sure the temp and air circulation were good. No more have died since. Good luck with your chicks.
