That's why I used vet wrap and just carefully wrapped the wing. When I initially tried wrapping around the duck's body, he threw himself on ground, thrashed around like a lunatic, got up, fell over till I took it off. Once I had wrapped only the wing he didn't seem to know it was on there and went about the next week as if nothing were different. Like I said, with just the wing wrapped, he could still flap them up and down while running around and swimming. I left the wing tip end open so the growing wings could grow through the end which they did. When I took the vet wrap off there were new longer wings with a lot of the waxy stuff that's on new feathers/quills and at first it was a little heavy and the wing drooped but as soon as he preened his wings they were good as new. I think that was the reason they started drooping and turning out in the first place - just too heavy for his little body. My ducks were only three weeks old when this occurred. All of my chicks and ducks free range (well the ducks are in large fenced open-top yard/run for their own protection from my dog) so I find that they feather much earlier than cooped up birds in brooders. The same ducks are now 8 weeks old and have all of their drake coloring and curly drake tail feathers. I posted a pic of them on your thread about Rouens and how to tell male from female.
