One of my females has been scalped

I had that happen to one of mine 2 times! You just need to clean the wound put neosporin on it's head and put her in a cage by herself with food and water, add electrolytes to her water. You could use blue kote but I always had better results with triple antibiotic that I use for when I cut myself while camping. Generic Neosporin or whatever you want to call it but it works great.

Thanks everyone. I did clean it and apply antibiotic cream. She's by herself now. The three remaining in that cage are acting like normal and I can't tell which of the two hens or both did this. Is it possible that if she survives I might get her into the pen that has only 1 male and 1 female?

Will do. I'm going out in an hour to lock everyone up for the night and I'll give her head another coating of cream and then hope she makes it through the night.

Once she heals she might be able to go into the pen with one male and one female, but if there is any sing of blood or open skin birds are very tempted to peck. I hope it doesn't get too cold over night. If she is in a state of physiological shock she will be more sensitive to cold than usual. some people suggest using a heat lamp in case of shock. I had a chicken with a large wound who was in more of a state of shock than your quail- she was laying on her side practically unconscious. She did not eat on her own for a couple of days and we dripped water down the side of her beak for hydration. She made a complete recovery.

I hope the other bird(s) did not attack her because they sensed she was weak from some illness. That just came to mind because birds are so good at hiding illness from us humans.

Anyway, I hope you see some improvement tomorrow.

Thanks, just went out and put her under a heat lamp. She still hanging in there.

So this morning she looked better in that she was up and moving about. The only thing is that her head is cocked to the side and she runs around in circles. She did eat some food and I reapplied the ointment so I guess I'll have to wait now. She's either brain damaged or it's starting to itch and that's what's causing her behaviour.
