Hello. I am new to the site as of today.
Yesterday I found a 5 month old barred rock dead in the coop around 5 in the evening.

I am (quite sure) she had been out with the others during the day and gave me no cause for concern. No marks or evidence of foul play.
All 11 of the others seem fine. Thoughts? I appreciate your help.

aww that's too bad.

:aww I am sorry but I don't know. You may have to give more details. Are their any bite marks on her or scratches? Any visible signs or something on her, such as blood?

I hope someone with better advise comes along to help!

Good luck and God bless you and your chickens!

I examined her really thoroughly before I buried her and there was nothing...She was inside, on the floor of the coop.
I have had a black snake occasionally looking for eggs and a fox and raccoon before but those injuries were very obvious.
I appreciate your input. I am so hoping that it isn't some evil disease that the others will succumb to. I love my gilrls!

I think we have all experienced this sort of thing. The hen may have gotten under the rest and could not breath and expired. Sometimes hens live for a few months and then just expire. If there is not outward sign and no sign of illness I would just watch the rest very closely at night when they are all quiet. I feel for you. Losing a bird can be tramatic, not to mention if they are good layers you lose out on this. Hope all goes well.
