One of my hens is a roo - what do i do!

LOL....well we will find out.... I posted those pictures when they were around 5 weeks old and almost everyone said, 'You have a roo" so it gets confusing...
His tail structure is so 100% different...and the wattles are so THERE....the others don't have wattles at all.... He has gotten bigger legs too in the last two weeks... will try to post newer pictures in the gender one in another week or so.... will be fun to follow and see if he/she lays and egg or starts to crow! LOL
Did i mention the strut he/she has going??? he/she walks differently.... maybe he is having gender issues and just needs a lot of support....

My others in the back of the tail are all fluffy.... George's tail feathers come together like a point, not a bit of fluff.... Do yours have the fuffy tail feathers in back? This is what i am going by mostly... ALL of my chickens have the fluff in back except George.... I will be so shocked if he is a she, but we will see... it will be fun to follow his/her progress anyway! I just read another post where everyone was saying boy and the lady kept posting and sure enough 4-5 weeks later, HE laid and egg!!! LOL either way, i'll be happy

Why is his tail so differently structured than my others? why did he start to get his wattles at 3 weeks old? just wondering why he is completely structured different? Does that mean he is not a buff orp? or my others aren't? they do not look the same........ i need to repost on the other forum about gender and breed.... it is fun to find out what they are though.... I think if i ever do get a roo on purpose it would be a buff orp!

One of my girls was bigger and strutted like a rooster - my folks just swore that it was a rooster - ended up being a gorgeous lady who lays like crazy ...
and my lil bitty one that we thought was a girl - crows ... lol

guess you never know

The first year I raised chicks picked from the bin at RK I ended up with a lot of roos. I had 4 BO chicks in the group. I could see differences but of the several breeds I had those were the very last to make the sex determination. I figured out 2 of the BO's were roos and while I was pleased at first, these roos were very rough with my hens and fought a lot, so I decided they would go to freezer camp.

That left 2 BO hens, right? Wrong one of them turned into a roo and was just like his bros. The other had smaller legs, did not crow, looked and acted more hen like. I had others tell me she was a hen. When I had another group of roos heading for freezer camp #3 BO got on the bus also. By then I had decided my best roo was my BR but I was disappointed because I really wanted BO's from the get go.

As soon as the 3rd BO roo was gone, the 4th BO made a complete change. First he crowed!!!! My other roos had been crowing for weeks. Soon his behavior left no doubt that he was a rooster.

Personally BO are a hard breed to call the sex on before they are almost to point of lay. I know there are folks on here who are very capable of doing so but they have experience I do not have. BO are known for their gentle nature but sometimes you get a bird of any breed whose behavior is not true to nature. So do not let anything I have said influence you not to keep a roo. They are a delight to have. I don't have one right now and I really miss him.

Freezer Camp LOL I like that one!
My one, Blondie is not friendly and is scared to death to be touched! I heard how docile the BOs are - did lots of research, and only one of them has turned out - so far - to be a nice docile bird.... Gerorgie is coming around, but Blondie has issues... her eyes are freaky! Like she is on the verge of a nervous breakdown, her comb is all crooked, and she is a complete airhead. I got mine from a feed store, so I am not sure of anything at this point.
Thanks for the insight.... I am going to post a Follow George on the Breed and Sex forum as see what HE/SHE turns out to be.... might be fun
