It looks like one of my BR hens is growing a dull spur out of her right leg. She is a hen though, I've seen her laying and she looks pretty hen-like.
Is this common?

I can't get a good picture because unfortunately she doesn't like people very much.

This is actually quite common. My Wendy Welsummer has killer spurs!! So glad she doesn't use them!

A lot of hens will develop a round stub, like a fifth nail on their legs. It is less common for that bump to actually develop into a spur, but it can happen. One of my White Bantam long-tail hens is developing flimsy 1/2-3/4 inch spurs. So yes, it can happen.

This isn't uncommon. Just keep an eye on it, because sometimes hen spurs can grow curved and cut into their feet.

aleta hungarian here, new member. was member YEARS ago at the poultry connection and forum. glad i found this new one. note: have 25+ hens. a year after my rooster cogburn died of old age, a brave fellow he was, one of my arucanna hens started trying to crow and did grow on each leg a spir. hear her every now and again crowing, sort of. heard that will happen in a flock. just an experience i have. thanks.
