one of my hens just honked

My BO hen honked during that time when their voices were changing from chirping to clucking. I thought there was something wrong with her until I found others on BYC with the same experience.

So, it sounds like a hen honking is a common thing, but will a young rooster ever honk too?

I have a honking Dominique hen. At first I thought she had something stuck in her throat, but after 2 weeks of this, I figure she just has a deep voice. All her noises sound like honks, even her trilling. lol. My Partridge Rock rooster doesn't say much at all- he's much quieter than my hens.. I'm sure that will change soon, he's just about 13 weeks old.

I have had a couple of birds over the years do this and I have tried to find out what from the folks at U of D poultry department and they have no idea......but it sure does make for some interesting thoughts on one's part when it happens.

My Barred Rock was always queen Bee before I got my Roosters and she always has crowed. Its not a nice crow but its gotten to be fairly loud over the years. She's 5 1/2 and stills lays fairly well, she misses every 3rd day or so but shes my first and I wouldnt trade her for anything!!!
