One of my new baby chicks makes body movement like crowing?

You are expecting a 5 day old to crow? No way. sometimes chicken tends to extend their neck and wide open their beak to clear up their throat after eating.
Good Luck.

I do not think that either of us are expecting our young chicks to crow...that would make us quite silly and I know you were not inferring that. I cannot speak for the OP but I was simply wondering if the movement was a precursor to that.

I am pretty much sure that movement was not related to crowing, but if you want get sure its male or female check out those wings or vent.

That's a great picture of it! Yes, crop adjusting, clearing the throat, stretching... Whatever you want to call it. Soon, they'll start play fighting and you'll worry again. Don't. They all do that too. ;)

It's not silly at all to worry you'll get a missexed chick -- particularly if you live where keeping a rooster is not an option. But, the hatcheries usually get it right. 90-95% of the time, the chicks are as expected. I personally got one whoops (out of fourteen) and he made himself obvious at three weeks. Not by crowing or fighting, though, by comb changes and feather color/pattern.

watched the video and if they had a 8x8 broder they would be so happy...they actually grow and feather faster as they have more excersise and can flap and fly short ways and can have there quit time when wanted while others play and fight....I always start with 8x8 or bigger and I usually have 30 or more chicks...and they never want to fly out of the big space but do with small space...I never have a cover on mine and its about 18 inches high at door slot..
