One of my new chicks has dhiarrea with blood in it!!!

TSC does sell Corid...but in the cattle section and only in gallon jugs. I have goats, a calf, chickens, geese, peafowl and dogs...I paid something like $80.00 over a year ago and have used it in a few cases...but have a lot left. Maybe if you call a vet they can supply you with a smaller amount?I keep mine the the fridge hoping it'll prolong the shelf life! It does work well and you can see a difference in just a matter of 3 days IF you catch it early. The medicated feed should help you a bunch with the other chicks but this particular baby might need a little "extra" to get him past this bout. Good luck - keep us posted.

I don't know if it is coccidia can you post a picture? It may not be coccidia, how is the chick acting? Is it lethargic with its body fluffed up?

Quarantine this chick from the others and start feeding them all yogurt mixed with their medicated chick feed. Also put organic apple cider vinegar in their water 2tbls per gal. Send a message to either threehorses or glenda haywood. They are real good...ddawn also! good luck!

Oh, no, I don't belong in that category! Those are people who have had chickens for many years. I read a lot here and am an old worn out RN, but don't have anywhere near that level of experience with chickens.

Not sure you have cocci, but for sure you have shipping stress. By all means, I would use the plain live culture yogurt and the organic ACV. Mix a little yogurt in with some feed; adding a bit of applesauce is also a good idea. They don't have the advantage of a mama hen's immunities so the yogurt or other probiotic is a great idea. Corid won't hurt, certainly, but not sure you need it. Watch the chick closely to be certain it eats and drinks plenty. Quarantine would be wise from a biosecurity standpoint but might upset the chick quite a bit; you will have to use your judgment here. I might even put just a bit of sugar in his water for a day or so - don't do this for long. You can also use few drops of a liquid baby vitamin (at any pharmacy) but get the kind without iron. There are several brands; I wound up asking a pharmacist to help me find it. (Little bottle hidden behind some others.)

If you have to clean the poop off the butt (and you do if it is stuck,) use warm water and soak it til it wipes off easily. I just hold them under a small running stream of warm water, and wipe at it with a Q tip; takes a few minutes. Then get them dry and warm, and put a little Vaseline on the butt. If you don't have Vaseline, you probably have some other ointment, triple antibiotic, Neosporin, Preparation H, whatever, any are fine.

I won't buy anything but medicated chick feed -- medicated with amprolium.

You know what, it is quite possible you saw a bit of blood because it was caused by cleaning the poop off. Would be easy to do. Pasty butt, or poop stuck to the butt, is something many must deal with for a few days, with shipped chicks. You'll get through it, many of us did! You do have to get it off -- it can actually clog them up and kill them. Just soak instead of pick it off.

Now, see, I didn't know you shouldn't mix them.

You can put a couple of drops of the vitamins along the side of the beak and let the chicken lick them up.
