We've had a trio of older hens that we adopted this spring to start our Chicken adventure. Then we had to have a pair of chicks when "Chick Days" came along at the local feed & grain store

And now one of those little ones has layed her first egg!

I wasn't sure when I found a little brown egg on Sat. and Sun. Because we were missing a big brown egg from Marigold, and I thought she might have just layed a small egg because of the heat.

But today I had a big brown egg and a little brown egg. Usually I have a brown from Marigold, tan from Hazel and pink from Lillian. So it looks like one of the two "Little girls" is going to lay brown eggs. I'm 90% sure it's Mary Ann, the kids caught her in the nest box over the weekend. And how cool that she's laying in the nest box right from the start!

Yippee!!

I don't know for sure. All three are hand-me-downs from a neighbor. I'd guess Lillian is the oldest, maybe she's 4. Marigold and Hazel I've guessed are 3. They were re-homed to my neighbor who then gave them to me. She knew I wanted to get started with some chickens, and enabled me, errr. . . . I mean helped me out! LOL!

Except for in this heat, they've all three been very consistant layers for me.

Only Ginger and MaryAnn are our from the start - they were 18 weeks this past Saturday. We bought them as chicks on Easter weekend.
