One of those "is it a roo" questions :)

This is a light Brahma chick we got from McMurray. It is MASSIVE. We call it Goose because it's so big. It's about 3 weeks old now. Too soon, or do I have a roo? Is there any chance it's just a massive pullet? Lol!




This little one on the left hand side too. It's getting feathers much slower than the others. Also 3 weeks. Bonus question, what kind of Silkie is on the right? I thought it was white like the others we have, but it seems to be coming in a different colour.

It looks like it might be sporting a little comb. That with the big size and the big feet...I think it might be a roo. On the silkie...could it be a blue or a splash? I don't know my silkies very well at all. Did you order random chicks or a package?

We ordered 25 assorted Bantams from McMurray. Definitely have white, blue and black. From Google images, this could be splash, gray, lavender, guess it's too early to tell! We have a bunch of Bantams that I have no idea what they are.

Could be a roo, though Brahmas are bigger birds. I have Light Brahmas from MM, they are a lot of fun & personality!

It's just so sturdy and beefy compared to the others, lol. I know I have a bunch of Bantams, but there are also standards in there, and it dwarfs them all.

For what it's worth, In many breeds roos tend to grow and feather out slower than hens but like everyone kept telling me with my fist flock, you really would know uuntil your chicken crows...and ) we have a RIR hen that will mimic crowing if we crow at her so you might not be able to go by that either.

In my VERY limited experience (I kept around 17 Bantams from McMurray out of 26 that I got), anything that develops any type of reddish comb by 5 weeks is a roo. Also if they display cock-like behavior -- flying up and 'chest-bumping', 'bucking up' to each other, staring each other down -- they are Roo's. I could see THIS behavior coming out by 3 weeks.

ALL of the babies I 'thought' MIGHT be roo's did indeed turn out to be roo's. All 10-11 of them. I'm not a very good picker of baby chicks --- LOL.

Except Silkies. My Silkies are/were so mild-mannered I only saw definite Roo behavior in 2 of them (I had 6). One was the first in my flock to start crowing. Going by their larger size ONLY I gave away those 2 plus 2 more that I *thought* might be Roo's. Of the 2 I kept, I think the Splash is a roo too. I'm 80% sure the black one I kept is indeed a pullet. They are around 18 weeks old now.

I also have a Sultan that *might* be a pullet as s/he does not exhibit any Roo behavior but s/he's pretty mild-mannered anyway.

hi the little silkie could be a self blue or a lavender. the self blues have lavender in them to my understanding. it is very pretty! might turn out being a self blue, very light blue. i have silkies also and i have a true blue, a darker type blue. my breeder breeds both self and true and she was explaining to me the color differences. basically one is light the other is a darker blue. one has lavender one does not. i think your little girl is a self blue and will be a beautiful light blue color. hope this helps! from what i can see in the pic this is my guess. as for the other bird, id guess roo, but im not positive. your birds are beautiful!
