It's been years since I've posted here. I recently did a hatch of 14 viable eggs. 12 lived. Two needed help. The very last one which pipped but didn't progress died today after 3 weeks of living. Smh but anywho. All of these came from the same type of chickens and rooster but one of them is pale. Eyes are normal. Why? S/N this one also needed help hatching, there was yolk on the outside of the egg during the full incubation, it struggled for 2 days but it's healthy now. But I don't get the color.

White plumage can be recessive.. taking two copies to show or dominant taking only one copy to show.. Recessive also means can be hidden by other colors.

It has nothing to do with incubation or being helped to hatch.

Some breeds have been known to throw a white "sport".

The rest look black and blue.. I would think possibly splash but it doesn't look like it to me.

Comb type can be indicative of parental possibilities.. post pics of the parents.

Congrats on your babies! :wee

Thank you. Yea I was aware it has nothing to do with being helped but, just wanted to add that in. The roosters are barred rock/Plymouth rock. The moms are the same and buff Orpington and Australorp. I hatched these for my dad's flock so I was uninterested in getting pics of the parents. Maybe I can get some next time. Pale baby still isn't all the way white now but has a red comb and is a rooster.

Thank you again!
