We are putting up 2 or 3 coops, should each coop have it's own run or one big run attached to all coops? Will they seperate themselves or all try to pile up in one coop?

If you keep each group locked in its own coop for about a week so they learn where home is, they will separate at bedtime. No guarantee they will lay eggs in their own coop but they should roost in their own.

They will intermix and interbreed during the day so don't expect to be able to hatch purebred chickens if you let them mix. And you may have integration problems when you first mix them, but they should sort that out.

Good Luck!!!

I've got a couple of 10x10 and 10x20 dog runs all hooked together. I keep them seperate until they figure out which house they live in and to allow the new chicks to grow up a bit before letting them loose with the others.

I do have a roo but not a real big deal. He is a game and most of my girls are heaveys. They just knock him down, lol.

Mayberry? as in Mt. Airy?

If you can design it so that you could put up a removable divider, you'd have the best of both worlds. Sometimes it really does come in handy to be able to have separate runs ...when you're dealing with a bully, a hen with chicks, etc.

Thank you all for your responses!

and yes, Mayberry as in Mount Airy

My birds all have crowded into one coop and the other one is empty. What a waste. So now they get to use that one coop while I made a way to use the other run and coop separately.
