Hi, Ive had my 3 hens for a month now, from a free range rescue and we are getting used to each other nicely. Ive noticed that one of my girls is around half the weight of the other 2 and she even turned down grapes on Friday (today is Sunday). She produced a white, foamy poo as well.

Ive brought some of the medicated wormer (incase the herbal one I tried wasnt any good) and to get her to eat it I put it in with some olive oil and meal worms. They disappeared ASAP so I allowed her to have a dozen or more and later on she had some of the high energy bird seed mixture Ive got. I kind of thought that anything that gets her strength up is good - I really thought I might find her dead in the morning.

This morning she actually jumped out of the house when I opened the lid! I really hope Im on to a winner but does anyone more experienced have any thoughts? Should I continue to give her whatever she will eat for a while to get some weight on? I havent seen any more 'pooing' sorry! but at least I know some food has gone in.

Ive also got a tonic to put in their water today.

Have you checked them for external parasites? Lice and mites?

Yep skinny chicken and or pale face and comb are good indicators of either worms or illness. If their crop is not impacted or they dont have a bad smell from the mouth or face, eyes are clear and they are laying...and are not infested with mites..... Then worms are my first thought. You can buy Safeguard goat wormer and mix three cc's to a gallon water and give for five to seven days. Repeat in fourteen. This gets more worms then Wazine which only kills round worms.

Hi, Ive used Flubenvet - Im in the UK so not sure if you have that one? Cant say Ive heard of the two you suggest but thats prob because of where Im based.

Ive just had a good look for mites or anything crawling about but didnt see anything. She does seem quite perky today so hopefully she will be ok, fingers crossed

Ive also used diatomaceous earth in the run incase there are any nasties that Ive missed.

Thanks
