I usually let my 9 chickens & 1 rooster out to eat and scratch around about 2:30 in the afternoon. Yesterday they demolished my flower beds around the swimming pool - bark and mulch all over the sidewalks & floating on top of the water. Husband not happy!! Today I decided to leave them in their coop/pen until we can put up a larger pen. Well, today around 3:30 I heard my rooster out in the back yard crowing up a storm. I looked out the window and sure enough, there he was - by himself. I guess he came to let me know I had forgotten to let them out to graze. I thought that was pretty smart. I walked to the pen (him following right behind me) and let his friends out to graze with him for about an hour. Sometimes he will fly over the fence before it's time to let them all out - but never coming to the house to get me.
