I'm sorry, i believe that you should have just killed him outright. Now it will just suffer. No need to make an animal suffer. Sorry if you dont agree with me..i hate coys also....but i'd never make one suffer.

i'm confused why people would even shoot if they didnt have a kill shot?

I agree. One Shot One Kill, always shoot to kill not to maim. I'm not going to preach to you about it, because I understand why you took the shot. But an injured animal has a harder time hunting for food. It may not return to your coop, but neighbor's livestock, pets, even children could be thought of as an alternative. Also injured animals will do all they can to survive, if a hunter comes across it and the coyote cannot run away, it may try and fight.

On another note, I'm glad none of your critters were harmed.

While I know that you may have been trying to be merciful or simply didn't have a decent shot, either way, a .22 will more than likely kill that coyote. Perhaps next time you should just shoot to kill humanely.

We were taught in hunter's education, to never shoot an animal from the rear, because it causes needless and drawn out suffering. Because it may not drop the animal, but more than likely will kill the animal, whether it be hours, days, or weeks of suffering later.

Glad you protected your chickens. Next time aim for the heart and lungs, just behind the front legs. The animal bleeds out rapidly and dies quickly. The heart and lungs are your best bet!

In my defense, I ask if you would want to get within 50 feet of a mange infested animal let alone pick it up and move it a safe distance from the house. I think not! The last animal that died close to the house was a deer. The vultures were on it in minutes shreading it to pieces then going on my roof 20 strong and crapping all over the place. The deer was in so many pieces it made it impossible to move. Now I had to start shooting the buzzards to keep them off my roof. So you see bleeding heart friends there was a method to my madness letting the scuzzy critter walk of and die somewhere else!

Gee, your previous post made it sound like you thought you were being nice to it and showing it mercy by not killing it. Remember, you said that you weren't trying to kill it. Before you start calling names (bleeding heart) you might want to get your story straight.

A chest shot would have allowed him to get a little farther away. However, to be honest, I'd have shot the ba... yeah... even if I didn't have the perfect shot. Shame that there's nothing that you can do with a mangy dog though.

If you don't want a dead animal around your house shooting buzzards, nature's clean-up crew, seems illogical.
