I just bought three one year old silkies, from someone who takes great care of her flock. I noticed however when they got here their poop all three of them is bloody. I thought this was a chick disease but I guess not! I think it's cocci. I can't lose these chickens I just spent $300 because they are the # 1 silkies in my state! I started them on cirid I'm their water and they are eating an drinking fine. Are they save able? Here is the photo of their poop!

Are you sure that's blood?

Did they come to you like this or have you had them a week or more?

Chickens become resistant with exposure to coccidia. However, if they go to a new environment with a strain they haven't been exposed to, adult chickens can succumb. There are 9 species that affect chickens.

I'm pretty sure it's blood. I just got them hours ago. The poops in between the blood look healthy though! It's really worrying me. How deadly is cocci?

I don't think so, it definitely looks like blood. Ill try and get a better photo

I'd treat them with corid regardless. It's not that expensive, and I've never had preventative treatment hurt a bird.

I already started with 1.5 teaspoon per gallon of water. Does it work all the time if caught early enough?

If they are already showing symptoms such as weakness, lethargy and weight loss, I've had poor outcomes with treatment. Their GI tract gets ulcerated too much to recover I guess. If poops is the only symptom, I've had good outcomes.

Thanks a lot! They are acting awesome except one is kinda lazy, but could just be the new home!
