Ongoing Brahma Projects Thread

Be careful, can turn into a long drawn out affair. Been there. http://www.the-coop.org/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=29277&page=1
I have read & reread the coop forums. I love all the info you have on there. I think once I'm moved, I will start this long project. I just love the silver laced. If I could find anyone that had any for sale, i would buy them, but alas, no one seems to have that particular color (for sale at least). So, i guess i'm in it for the long haul. :)

I guess I lose track of how often I post that link, sorry about that. Seems like we get repeats of the same questions often enough here that I assume we have a fair percentage of new folks rotating through, and it's often just easier to post the link than go through the long answer.

Oh, no..don't be sorry..there's some great info on there..that's the reason I've read it so many times. :)

I'm about to get a bunch of light Brahmas in the mail from Murray McMurray Hatchery along with one dark Brahma cockerel, 7 black Jersey Giants (1 cockerel, 6 pullets), one buff Cochin cockerel and finally one rare freebie exotic that Murray McMurray throws in their orders as an option. Making a total of 22 chicks and that's on top of 13 other chicks I bought from Tractor Supply (14 originally but one was killed by one of our dogs). Then 45 adult birds with 2 adult ducks and six juvenile ducklings. A LOT of poultry birds at the end of the day!

[/IMG] just curious if anyone has ever had this color before. He appears to be a blue laced silver.

What would I get from him breeding a splash blue laced red wyandotte?

That would depend on whether he is pure silver or split silver/gold. He shows a little brass in his hackle and saddle, but does not give me the impression that he is split. Do you know what he is out of ?

If he is silver/silver, bred to a splash laced red will produce silver based females. Half will be blue laced silver like him. The other half will be splash laced silver, which will basically look like a white bird. The male chicks will be split gold/silver, so essentially a white bird with brassy straw colored saddles and hackles. Again half will be blue laced the other half splash laced.

If your male is split gold/silver he could produce pullets of both color bases, and pure gold/gold as well as split males, the blue splash ratios stated above would still hold true.

Now as to comb and leg feathering, I would expect to see some clean legged chicks out of that cross as the male himself looks to be a result of a clean legged parent. Some may be sparsely feather legged. I would expect to see a lot of cushion combs, maybe some rose combs as well, depending what your male may have in his recent family tree.
