Ongoing health concerns with my duckling, Speck

48 hours unwrapped and her wings are looking iffy again..Sometimes they are almost normal so I think if she keeps building wing strength that will help. But I should probably wrap again?

Also her foamy eye is back. Argh!! Other than that she’s doing great and seems more flexible

If mine I'd wrap again for a few more days. Or use the stocking.

Is she still not liking water? that is usually why they get foamy eyes they don't dunk their heads enough.

She does like water now! I’ve been giving her swim time everyday, and I change her drinking water at least twice a day.

Well, Speck actually swam and enjoyed it for the first time in her life today. That was an unexpected victory

Niacin! Peas, meal worms, free ranging on insects and the scrambled eggs are good. I get duck feed which has supplement and you have to really look at the ingredients of multi-flock, not a lot have niacin because chickens make niacin out of the grain they eat, ducks do not. Other possibilities I can think of are toxic exposure, bacteria, parasite, virus. Hopefully you can just get some more niacin in her diet and happy ducking around!

Thank you so much for the reply. Would you recommend treating Speck for parasites just in case? And if so, is there a dewormer you recommend?

I am feeding her Purina duck pellets. It does contain niacin. I’m also giving her poultry cell. She loves peas, but I haven’t been giving her a lot because of the high protein and angel wing. But she’s probably getting to an age where I don’t need to worry about that anymore

I drop tea tree oil in all of the outside water buckets to prevent parasites (and mosquitos!). I've never had to deal with parasites, so, seems to be working. I imagine your local animal supply store will have some sort of dewormer to be added to food or water. I had a duck once that I was certain was going to die like the rest who had these same neurological symptoms but he lived and always walked abnormally. He was Happy Foot and he lived to be healthy into adulthood but you could tell he had developed differently.
