Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Bummer about the Singer.

It is really disappointing.
The poor machine barely sews a straight stitch to join just 2 pieces of quilting cotton.

I sent the person with the brother machine an e-mail through the craigslist reply button.
I don't really expect to hear back.

There's an ad for a big long arm Q'nique just 2 years old and 4 hours from me for 3000 bucks.
Won't do any good without a piecing machine lol.

Have you thought about a Janome 6500, 6600 or 6700? Those do some stuff you might like. Everyone calls it a workhorse machine, not as large as my 7700. The throat on the 6700 is slightly larger than the other two. You can find them on Ebay quite a bit. You just have to find someone who will take a credit card processed through Paypal if you don't specifically have Paypal.

Here is one listing. I look for professionally serviced, or one that a quilter has had and knows the machine, usually I don't want a reseller who says "machine works" and that's it.

This 8200 is nice, too, almost new as far as hours used. It has an 11" throat like my 7700

Oh WOW!!

Nice machines at decent prices!N

Lots of reading for me to do before I choose.

Much of today I will be focused on my old dog. He has something going on with his eyes.
Gotta get him to the vet for sure. It just started yesterday but looks really bad.

Oh, I hope it's nothing serious. My old gal got cataracts at the end of her life, very cloudy. And then, they'd matter more than usual. She was almost 15 years old, a very ripe old age for a pointer/lab cross.

Yes, you can get decent machines on Ebay. You have to just watch and wait, save searches so you can easily look for bargains. Some have buy-it-now machines, some have an opening bid, but also say "make offer". I just try to avoid resellers as much as possible. A Janome 7700 came up used for opening bid of just $500, but no one bid on it. The reason I do believe was that it was a new seller with zero feedback, said the machine had been used a lot, no mention of ever having been serviced, etc. Not worth the risk for that one, IMO, or anyone else's opinion, either, I'd say. Could have been a $500 paperweight. So, you just have to assess the listings. I belong to a Janome Horizon group on FB and so many folks love their 6500-6700 machines, even make king-size quilts on them. It's harder to find the 6700 used, though, I've found. Just have to jump on it if a good one comes up.

I just got a call from the brother machine folks!
I go look at the machine 10am tomorrow.

The sewing table stays with them but they are selling an acrylic extension table with the machine.

Super excited!!!!

Yes my boys eye is a real concern. He is 10 and the eye kinda looks like cherry eye BUT he has had a growth on the eyelid for 7 years that the vet recommended not to remove. It hasn't grown any in the last 5+ years and is quite small but bugs me.
He's a big dog at 100+ pounds and 32" at the shoulder. I am hoping he just needs some meds.
He's a really good sweet dog. I am definitely not ready to lose him.

Glad to hear the old dog is OK. Hope the swelling goes down quickly.
This spring we had our 3 year-old german shepherd go mostly blind. One day when I was giving him a treat when I noticed that his eyes looked weird. His pupils were large and fixed, his eyes were kinda bulging out like he was straining to see, and he didn't blick when I motioned near his eyes. One vet tech said he was totally blind, but I know he could see shadows and movement at least. He never bumped into anything and still chased his ball... Turned out it was an auto-immune response to something and his body was rejecting his retinas (or something, I can't remember). With high doses of steroids, we managed to get his eyesight back - if it is 100% I can't say, but he is not limited in any way by his eyesight. Way scary for 3 months there though. He is a good boy and at 100+ pounds with a deep bark, he is kinda intimidating to strangers.
We are still weaning him off the steroids, watching and hoping that it is cured and he keeps his eyesight. So far so good.

I am really glad your dog got sorted out. I would have been very worried too.

So.... I bought the brother machine!

Everything works really nicely!

Now I needed a beefy table to hold this bigger machine. I stopped at the goodwill on my way home and they had just what I needed for only $6.
Happy dance!!
It's raining here so I will pick the table up in a few hours when someone will be home to help me with it.
I am super excited!
Pics to follow of course.
