Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

I just want to say that I am having to fudge so much to get this 3D quilt to go together in a reasonable fashion that I am in a chocolate coma.

It will be beautiful when finished!

Sadly, it wasn't. It fought me at every turn. Finally I got it together, but am very disappointed in the outcome. I folded it up and put it aside in favor of other stuff. I just couldn't do it anymore. It really looks awful, Kathryn. I have the other stuff in progress, but we had to get the garden in, too, so I may have to slow down on my quilting. I've been going at it full bore for awhile now.

Perhaps the break away from the 3D will bring a new outlook. A 3D is a study in illusion...the appearance of depth that draws the mind and eye to complete the image. You have been so close to the task of completion that every "fudge" jumps out at you. They were necessary to keep the lines straight.
When you do get it out to finish it, perhaps laying it across your bed so your view is in a new perspective might relieve your focus on those "fudges".
Remember too...Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I did need a break. I did a bad thing and trimmed too much on the side with the red center on one or two of them. I knew that was a no-no, but was having the absolute worst time getting this to work, and now, a couple are not square as they should be. It really was disheartening. I have not wanted to do a quilt design this much in ages. Thank you for your kind words and wisdom, Kathryn.

I'm doing something crazy now, though. It's sort of an orphan block quilt, but I'm just using some blocks I have laying around, adding to them by making more and just putting together mismatched sizes and colors and going wild. I need that after the 3D disaster!

My husband. That man! I told him about my plan, what an orphan block quilt was, he saw my wall of miscellaneous blocks I have so far.

He said, "You can't do it." His reason? "It's too chaotic. Your mind won't let you."

Is that a challenge I hear?
