Sounds like another good reason to do some fabric browsing, lol.... I do think a dark brick red or brown red would be the ticket....something in an 'old autumn leaves' tone. Hmmmm...dark autumn gold...not into the orange range, more like the warm gold/brown tone you can see in old wood furniture. That may work nice against the front.

Good suggestion. I love to find fabrics on a good sale price, which is like a needle in a haystack at Walmart, but their normal prices are not bad anyway. I have a gold I used in the Primitive Hearts quilt that would work nicely if I could find more of it. I can't recall which WallyWorld I got it at, though.

Recent fabric acquisitions, mostly just because I liked them. The blue flowered one, I didn't even see those pale stripes in the online photo, a hazard of buying online, but it's still pretty. These are mostly fat quarters and short cuts (full fabric width but a short piece like 11 or 13") with a few one yard pieces. On the left are some historic prints, which I really love. I want to do a less "girly" quilt soon.
Do you still have the two fabrics in the lower left of this picture? Can you see if they tone well with the quilt. I am preferring the second one in more than the end one, but both seem in the right 'autumn' tone.

I have those, but I don't want to use them in this quilt, not enough for the backing anyway. I have these two, first one was the background of some of the hearts. The second one is a deeper gold that I hope I can match if I think it works better. I have the border sewn in place. I like the gold background because I could then turn it to the front for binding, doing double duty.
This one I got at Walmart, a nice gold that is the background for a few of the hearts. May be able to find more of it.

I got this one at thousands of bolts online, but I have only one yard of it and would just want to match the tone if you think it's a better fit.

I love gold fabrics because they go with all other colors so nicely. Gold and green, gold and blue, gold and red, gold and purple, etc. Yellow is not as versatile, IMO.

I prefer the richness of the 2nd fabric...I think it stands up better to the deep tones on the other side. Against the darker colors the top gold starts to look more yellow in tone, like corn, rather than the rich autumn I was picturing.

I have to admit I have never been a big fan of polka dots, so that could be jading my opinion, but the pattern even seems to 'argue' with all of the other patterns on the front. The softer swirls of the lower fabric don't seem to do that.

May be that I have to get something else, a red or blue for the backing, depending on what Walmart has available. I agree that the 2nd gold is much better. The first one looks med gold until you put it against the dark colors of the quilt.
