Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

Kathryn, always a pleasure when you stop by! I remade the four center blocks and I still cannot get them to meet up perfectly. Seems simple, cut carefully, sew with 1/4 seam allowance and still, they are making a fool out of me! It was giving me a complete headache so I let them be slightly imperfect. Lesson learned-I can't do anything that has to be that precise! Here she is with the center four assembled, plus a couple of the others on the sides done....I will have extras to make it like an attic windows so nothing has to go together perfectly! The blocks just have to be the same overall size. And the purple blocks, I had already cut pieces that were stored in a ziplock bag with the pattern so I started putting those together. They are l left from a different project years ago, I think. This really needs to be flipped around so the darker blocks at the top are on the bottom. At least, in my mind, darker on bottom makes a kind of sense. I don't even know what this is! Lap quilt? Bed topper? Wall hanging?

What about making the corners the lighter gray blocks and the darker ones the half squares on the side. You have 8 dark blocks and 12 light blocks.

I'll have to think about that. It's not just light, but there are blocks where the fabrics are the exact same when they come together and if I change them around, I may not be able to make it work so that it appears continuous from block to block, more choppy. I'm not sure how to say that so it makes sense. My downfall is I never have enough of one fabric to make up for mistakes when I'm doing a more planned quilt like this one. I need to buy fabric in more than FQs and one yard pieces for something like this.

Adding that it is a good suggestion, though. I'm going to get back at it tomorrow. The middle of my back feels like someone cranked a winch too tight!

Exactly! Hopefully, I can have a fresh perspective tomorrow. Today, I was becoming too frustrated with it.

. Center section is set. And I really like the outside section! Next section framing the center: Will the far upper right and the far lower left framing the center section fit together in the middle of the row above the center block so you have a dark 1/2 square on each side of the center section? Split the mid tone 1/2 block to replace the two dark blocks. That solves the problem of what to do with the darker blocks.

Not sure about what you're trying to say. I think maybe the photo is showing tones incorrectly in my dark house. I think this arrangement is probably the best I can get out of it. I'm glad you suggested something about how to fix the overly dark on one end or I'd probably not begun shifting them around and had a not-as-nice quilt overall.


Here's a picture with more light. Ah, I think I see now what you're talking about now! Let me see what I can do...

ETA: Those two opposite corner blocks have red centers that are slightly off in shade from one another and in trying to keep them separated, I had put it that way, not realizing I had one side of the center block a tone a bit different than the other three. So I realize why I had it that way, but I don't think it will be an issue. It's just a tiny shade off.

Okay, I did what you suggested. Remember, it's wonky because most of these are not sewn together. You can see the color difference in the reds in the photo, which I brightened up, but in person, it's much less noticeable. It's one of those lesser of two evils deals, I guess.

If your perfectionist persona chooses to interfere, then remove the tiny red square from one of the corners in the middle border and swap it with the red one that is a different shade and then restitch the red squares.

LOL, I could not believe I ran completely out of the lighter red. I thought I had a good bit of it, but then, I realized it was a deeper shade. By then, I was into the project already. Tell me I'm not the only one who's done that! I was muttering to myself that me and my Belgian D'anver rooster were in a competition for the "Box of Rocks Award", meaning "Dumb as....". I think I got him beat today!
