Ongoing Quilt Projects, Continued from the "No Appreciation...." Thread

oh, that's good. I think the increased throat space is worth getting a new machine for, even before considering the other features. And the lighting, for sure. That's worth getting, too.
How long until it arrives? It's exciting, living vicariously through you. :D

I'm not sure how long, but should be by the end of the week, I'd think, even doing economy shipping. I'll know when she gets it to the P.O. and I can actually track it and get a delivery estimate.

Supposedly, the machine is due to get here Saturday. Unless it arrives a day early, this carrier, unlike my guy who retired (why, oh, why, Mike, did you leave us??) will leave a slip to come pick it up on Monday. He may anyway. Mike went the extra mile, even had my phone number to call me to say he had a package and to open the gate.

I have this much done. If I do a 3" second border, then a 12" round of blocks, that will get it up to about 108" square, right in the king size area.

Call your post office and ask that it be delivered, even on Saturday. Let them know it's large and heavy. If it won't fit in the carrier's vehicle due to size, ask if you can go pick it up. Sometimes they will accommodate you. :) It never hurts to ask.

Hmm, probably not. I guess I could talk to a lady who knows me more than the newer folks and see what she says. But, I may just track it and see if the delivery day is moved up. Seems that they usually arrive a day earlier than scheduled with economy and I hope that's the case.

Machine is already in Blue Ridge, our main town over.

Arrived at Post Office
BLUE RIDGE, GA 30513

We may see if we can go get it today instead of it going to our little P.O. tomorrow and having to go pick it up anyway when the carrier decides he can't drive up the hill to our house.

Meet my new friend.

Funny, she forgot one thing: the power cord! I asked her if there was some strange place it might be hidden, but we tore that packing apart, looked in every place the machine would open, no power cord. So, I messaged her and she said that was so weird, she remembered packing it. She's going to buy me a new one and mail it out priority mail. My Brother 1500's cord fits it perfectly, though, so I have a temporary measure.

Hahahaha! She found the cord! Seems like such a nice person.

I found it!! It was under my dust ruffle. When I packed up the machine, the box was next to the bed. I must have dropped it the box but missed the box. Ugh. On it's way to you first thing tomorrow!!!!!

We must be soul mates. I hated Home Ec in HS - almost flunked it. It made my mother sad because she was such a good sewer - my grandmother was a professional. I was a disgrace. I didn't get into sewing until I was in my 30's and then I took off. Tried clothing and hated it; but the quilting, home dec, etc. fabulous. My cup of tea - especially the quilting, So rewarding. Never tried to make a King size quilt though. You're my hero for taking that on!

She really seems wonderful!

I LOVED LOVED LOVED Home Ec. I took it every ear from Jr high through HS. Cooking, sewing...all of it. I used to make my own clothes in HS when it was so much less expensive to make your own than to buy. Boy that was a long time ago....

I put another more narrow border on this current project with the new machine. I got it figured out as far as the bobbin, threading it, using the auto needle threader, etc, which 1/4" piecing foot to use, etc. The lighting is SO much better than the Brother!! I did need to sit higher on my stool to be really at the proper level since this is a taller from the table machine.
I may do a flying geese border variation for the next round instead of what I was going to do. That way, I can use more of the coordinating fabrics. Plus, I could also do a partial flying geese, with sections of plain fabric, geese going different directions, etc.
