yes that is exactly what they look like black scablike bumps and a couple have a bump on the outside edge of the mouth

Yes its fowl pox but it just has to run its course nothing u can do but keep giving antibiotics to help fight off secondary infections while their immune system is weak.

Hello everyone!
I have been reading the forums on this site for quite some time. I got my first small flock in March, lil puff balls, that have turned into beautiful golden comet hens. I have a congested sounding girl...her eyes are clear and there is no mucus to be seen. AT first she just stood around, didn't scratch or she would lay in spot under her bush. She seemed to stand funny...the others backs were more horizontal, but she would lay, and she did get up on her roost. Her appetite is decreasing rapidly, even her favorite treat, blueberries were a little peck. I have isolated her, she is in a dog crate in the house so I can keep a close eye on her, and she isn't drinking much on her own. I have added electrolytes to the water and squirt some into her mouth. She has free choice of oyster shell, her regular feel, and her treats. I have tried the Duramycin, and yet there is no improvement, now she won't even eat her blueberries. None of my other girls are acting sick.Everything I read said to cull her, but I'm not sure that is the right thing to do. Can a chicken catch a virus and it just needs to run it's course?? I am watching my other girls quite close too now, just to see if anyone else starts acting strange. Any help and advise, please. I just want to fix her and get back with her crew. Looks like I have a similar problem...

Hello!
If it were me I'd take her to the vets straight away. It could be fungal or an infection and need treatment, in my experience respiratory infections in chickens don't usually resolve themselves without antibioitcs, the chicken usually gets too poorly and exhausted and stops eating. It's not uncommon for just one of the flock to show symptoms and the rest be fine, she might have something she's not yet passed on, or they could all have a disease like mycoplasma, and in that case they will all likely be infected with but only one or two might show symptoms at a time, usually when they are stressed or their immune system is run down.
Hope you get your little girl sorted

3 of mine had similar symptoms 2 are better now 1 is still bad I stuffed a gummy vitamin down their throats every day until they could eat on their own they also did not reject grubs any thing to get food in their crop or they will starve . I had a chicken a few months back that I thought would get over it and she didn't just a lil bit of force feeding will go a long way

What did you do to help them. She's on duramycin but she doesn't seem any better. I am going to feed her probiotics and electrolytes thru a syringe a few times more a day. No one else is acting that way. Thank you for the info.
