I am not sure exactly where to post this question but I am interested in taking an intensive online chicken keeper course for backyard flocks. Something that covers it all and doesn’t need to be free. I want to be the best bird keeper I can be. I would love suggestions. Thanks

I took this course a few years ago and found it interesting - https://www.coursera.org/learn/chickens

Welcome to the best chicken course ever.. the BYC online community! It doesn't get much more intense than this. :frow

First things first.. there are lots of good rules of thumb.. but what works in one location for one keeper might not work so well for another.. Chickens are a very dynamic species.

Lots of whats written for chicken keeping is written according to industry standards.. example.. using "layer" feed.. is something I NEVER do.. because it's the MINIMUM required nutrients.. not "ideal" per say.. but most cost effective. I use flock raiser with oyster shell free choice on the side instead.. for a multitude of reasons.

I know some county agriculture departments and a few colleges do or have offered what you're asking about in the past.

Thank you. Definitely a good place to start

You here!!! This is the best online place, to learn about chicken keeping!

You will get different approaches to keeping chickens when you ask a question, you have to decide what answer might work best for you. If you choose a way and it doesn't work well, change it up.

I like a very simple easy way to keep chickens. I use horizontal nipple waterers to keep the water clean, I refresh it weekly. I use DIY no waste feeders that get refilled as needed. I'm still out in the coop daily to check on them. The easier it is to take care of them the more you will enjoy them, because it won't seem like a chore!
