Online Chicken SHOW!!!

What breed would you recommend for eggs?
The Indian Runner or the Ancona! The Runner lays 200+ a year I and the Ancona lays maybe a little less but the Ancona is more of a rare duck because the are a meat breed but lay so many eggs and they are good moms as well as the Runner duck! If you read about the Runner it will say mothering not good but my experience is they are grat moms! I have a Ancona on 5 eggs right now and can’t wait to compare the breeds mothering!! Hope this helps!

Thank you this is super helpful would it be all right to put them in a coop (860 square feet) with 6 hens and how many would be a good amount to start with?

I would start with 2 Ancona if that’s the one you’re going with! I have 2 right now they are also friendly and even more if you raise the as ducklings! The Runners are more of a nervous breed! They Ancona lays 210-280 a year and it said they lay all year around not sure is that’s true but who knows! If you you want Runners start with however many you want!!

That’s weird I don’t have a Ancona drake yet but I haven’t heard anything about this all drakes can hurt a hen and could kill her if there’s to many but I have 2 Runner drakes and they don’t kill my hens we have even had 4 drakes!!

My Indian Runner drake his is a show quality!

Name: Oreo

She was a great chicken, always wanting to be pet or held. Unfortunately, she passed away in February.

Penny was always really spunky and brave. She was also super friendly and sweet. She passed away about a month ago.

Name: Maisie
Breed: Rhode Island Red
Maisie is silly, kind of mean, but also lots of fun. She is probably the favorite right now.

Marble Pic.jpg

Name: Marble
Breed: Barred Rock
Marble does not normally look this ragged. This picture was taken while she was molting. Marble is kind of shy and doesn't really like to be picked up. She likes to stand by you though, and she is a very sweet bird.

Name: Rocky
Breed: Black Australorp
Rocky is the leader of the flock. She is big, and strong, and majestic, easily my prettiest chicken. This picture was taken recently, soon after she adopted four little chicks. She is a really great mom, and she's teaching them everything they need to know about being chickens.

Name: Papaya
Breed: Frizzle Buff Cochin Bantam
Papaya is really friendly and sweet and loves to be held. I suspect she may actually be a he though!

Name: Mango
Breed: Buff Cochin Bantam
Mango is an absolute cuddle bug. She loves to be in your hand and she adores being petted.

Name: Bunny
Breed: Easter Egger
Bunny is super smart and loves to be outside. She will do absolutely anything to scratch in the dirt with her mom.

Name: Cheeks
Breed: Easter Egger
Cheeks is really naughty and is always getting into trouble. She is always the last thick to crawl under mom at night, because there is always one more thing she has to do, whether it's eating, drinking, preening, or just looking around.
