Online feed ordering

Some people do order online but generally it is much more expensive than buying it at a store unless you have a large flock and are buying enough to get free shipping and are using it fast enough.

Feed breaks down and starts losing nutrient value quickly.
Id be skeptical about the freshness of feed I bought online. Every bag of commercial feed is marked with a milling date and should have a large tear off label sewn into the bottom seam.

i order some feed online. i’ve been ordering my dog food from chewy for about a year now and surprisingly enough they also offer poultry food koi food etc. free shipping and discounts on new orders can be helpful. it’s not a huge savings over the long haul, but on premium foods can save a couple bucks per bag and a trip to the local feed store.

As far as freshness is concerned, some nutrients start to degrade in as little as six weeks especially in hot or humid weather.
If feed gets wet it gets mold on it which can grow botulism and kill your chickens.
Commercial feed is precisely mixed with the correct amount of added nutrients and a vitamin deficiency in a chicken can lead to some terrible results.
How you store it is a big factor it needs to be cool and very dry.
If kept in optimal conditions most things I’ve read say a few to several months 3-6.

I love chewy for other pet things and dog food but so far their options on brands of chicken feeds is too limited and I’ve not explored how they charge for shipping on it and wether their shipping fees policy is the same in that as on other things. ($49 ships free)
