Sorry about you cow Jim, i had a crap day, but not as crappy as yours. It's always sad when it's a good old cow.

Jim, so sorry about the cow. That kind of stuff never gets easy.

Deb has inspired me with all of her construction so this weekend I built a window and installed it. Every year we board up this window (really a hole) in the barn for winter and it makes it dark and creepy. Well, I have asked my husband to put a window that can be opened for a few years and winter has came and the plywood goes up again. Long story short I measured and cut wood, then had to measure and recut wood (oops), but after several hours I have a glass window that opens and no longer dark and creepy. I even caulked it so no drafts. Thanks Deb for the inspiration.

Deb is in inspiration to many. Not just with her hard work ethic and doing what needs to be done but also her kind, caring, and compassionate nature. She is not afraid to share her infinite knowledge that she has learned from others, trial and error, and research. Thank you Deb.

Congrats Ann on the window. It seems like whenever I build anything, I need to remeasure too. My wife's grandpa would always say, measure twice and cut once. He also would say to make everything just a hair big and if you need to, just take off a saw blades width. Man I miss him. We lost him last Dec 14. He had cancer in the Ureter that spread to the bone.

Thanks for all the kind words about the cow that I lost. She was the result of my first successful AI.

Aw, you guys are so sweet!

Ann, I am proud of you! If I wait for DH to do things, years might go by. And the more you do, the easier it gets. Then you start to enjoy it. Next thing you know, chicken math kicks in and you have more than a dozen breeds:-D
On the AI topic, I had a purebred dog that always got on the wrong end. Went to the vet with said dog and a female dog in heat. Vet had no idea what to do:-D So get her done, just DIY and had a litter of pups. Did get a new stud dog, but it never hurts to know how to do things yourself.
I had a friend that died of bone cancer. Not a nice way to go. I can't understand why we can't help people die when there is no cure and they are suffering.

I like to get a bath in the morning to soak out the kinks. But I didn't want to miss the mail so I waited until 11:00 and figured the mail had already run and no eggs were going to show up. I get in the tub. The phone rings. Some guy wants to buy lime. I don't sell lime. I get back in the tub. Aaah, that feels better. Beep beep! The mail carrier is in the driveway! The phone rings again.Throw on clothes, run put on shoes and get box of eggs. Nobody wanted me to get a bath I guess .
Packed and mailed more eggs, lost money shipping these to California, guess I need to charge more for shipping.
Today I worked on the insulated room in the barn. Took two wagon loads of litter down the gulch . You should see how green the grass is down there. Threw some stuff out the window and left the window open to air it out. Put up another 4x4 section of plywood on the ceiling. Still quite a bit of work to be done to finish up.
Then I was feeding critters and DH came home. He was hunting squirrels and I mentioned that I bought hinges for the new coop. I was hammering staples in around the pop door to secure the wire. So he got busy and put the door on and helped me put up the perches. Therefore the new shelter for the grow out pen is up and running!
Oh, and my quail laid their first egg today! I was checking on one with a bloody toe and I saw the egg. I got the quail out and bluecoated the toe and moved it down to the new breeder pen. I am slowly moving them down there.
I put 30 more eggs in today, had 5-6 chicks hatch. Love those little peeps!

This morning I ....RESTED!!! I sat in the living room and quilted and watched a whole movie! Shocking, right?
This afternoon I fed the animals. Cut plywood to cover openings in the doors that have wire mesh coverings. They are good for ventilation in the summer, but it is getting too cold so i boarded them up. I also cut a new lid for the nest box of the original coop, the wood has been insect chewed and needs replacement. No eggs in the mail today, but the PO is asking for more of my cards because everyone wants eating eggs. Lots of people that have laying hens but no lights on now have no eggs to sell.
Just looking over the coops and considering how to winterize them. Heck, i still need to build more but money is tight. Once i get to spring, things will pick up. Ugh, i dread the cold weather .:p

Today i installed the rest of the insulation in the warm room in the barn, on the ceiling and the outside wall. That leaves just the inner wall to do. I also need more insulation and plywood for the ceiling. I spread some paint but i will need to give it another coat. Tomorrow i want to install a light and maybe get DH to help me carry in the sink cabinet. Might as well install the sink before the ground freezes. Painted the new nest box lid for the old coop and installed it. Looking good!
Sold three dozen eating eggs today. No calls yet on my buck for sale, i will have to put up a pic on there, that might help. Need to clean out the back garage stalls for the goats to winter in. Don't want them kidding outside when it is cold.
