Went to the chicken auction today. Sold four roosters and a pullet, Bought four pullets and a rooster. BANTAM cochins. My auction card just kept waving itself. Even bought my friend a bunny for Xmas. Needless to say I didn't bring home a check. But it was fun.
DH and I carted the two sides of the new coop down to the pasture and he nailed on the four boards to connect them. It is shaping up. I slapped on a coat of paint. I fed all the critters early because it was supposed to rain and it did. Now I am ready for more of this lovely 70 degree weather.
Got another call from someone who wants to buy chickens. I am only selling chicks, I can't make it pay to feed them for six months and then sell them.

Hope you are feeling better today. DH had two migraines today.i have been sleeping a lot with all this rain. Maybe I will get rested up. I did put up plywood to cover the insulation in the barn. Built a goat feeder in the back garage so I can feed them indoors. Pellets just melt in the rain. It has been raining all day and all night. Hope we don't have flooding. Hope the chickens keep laying, they don't like rain much either. Need to go wrap more eggs.

I ended up with a stomach virus.. spent all day yesterday in the bed.. only worked 1/2 day -- took father-in-law to the airport..now all I want to do is go back to bed.. I do have some chicks from eggs I bought on my last egg raid to Nancy (Bargain).. I think last count was 8..so who can be too sick with new chicks in the house. I know I should stop hatching now that winter is here.. but I am seriously addicted so it won't happen.. good thing.. my last two egg swaps arrived today.. : )

Sounds like the barn improvements are going quickly.. the energizerbunny Deb is at it again

Sorry to hear you are sick Shelly. My wife has been sick with a cold for a long time. So today i went and got a load of firewood. Me and the girl stacked it on the porch and built a big fire in the fireplace, it;s going to be 26 tonight and 16 tomorrow night.

Shelly, So sorry you are sick! Put yourself on a liquid diet, clear fluids and keep drinking. 8 glasses at least, you don't want to end up in hospital with dehydration! If you get diarrhea, take Imodium right away . Who is going to care for chickies if mama is sick?

DH did laundry today while I went to town. He is the best! Sadly, he has to go back to work tomorrow . Due to inclement weather, the coop is not done. I have to go back to town tomorrow to ship more eggs and buy more lumber and roofing material. I got some of the lights back on in chicken city, but it is hard to do much when it is cold dark and snowing. Looks like I will need to try out the crock pot water heaters, and the foot baths so the chickens can drink in this crummy weather. Hope it clears up soon.

It stopped snowing and raining but it is still cold. I think tomorrow is supposed to be sunnier.
Bought a beat up old cabinet Bator today, will build a new cabinet for it. At least it has turners and auto water adding. Got 2x4s for the run and metal for the new coop roof.
Tried to take chick pics of new baby polish, but they didn't turn out. Will try again later. Have to ship more eggs tomorrow , and get a hair cut.

It was sunny but cold today. I hated to go to town, but i got my hair cut and shipped three boxes of eggs. DH took me out to lunch, then i beat it back home. I put the plastic over the nest boxes, so hopefully next time it rains they won't get wet. Took out all the wet stuff (ugh) and put in dry shavings, then hay. Got four rows of boxes done. Found out what the electrical problem is in Chicken City, so now there is only one light not working. I will fix that tomorrow, since it was getting dark by then. Hope to get more work done on the current coop construction tomorrow.

DH put two more pieces of plywood on the new coop. He says you have to make the nest boxes before I can do anything else. I repaired the run that had damage to the netting on top. I think I am going to just replace all that netting, I don't trust it. It's hard to get at, since the run is 8 ' tall! One of my favorite polish pullets died today, she had wry neck. I don't know why I still get birds with that when I supplement with minerals for the selenium. Maybe I need to give it free choice instead of mixed in the feed. I always feel bad when one dies.
Friday night we are going to a benefit dinner and the entertainment is Bob Newhart! So that should be interesting.

Went out to dinner tonight, and saw a show with Bob Newhart. Then we had our pictures taken with Mr. Newhart. The food was very good, and the show was really good. They had a blue grass band to warm up beforehand, those guys can really play! So I was all dressed up, and on the walk back to the car, my shoe fell apart. I swear, i think i wore those shoes like once before. They don't make shoes like they used to.
It was another pretty day today. I started pulling the incubator apart to rebuild it. What a mess
I packed two boxes of eggs to ship tomorrow. I also need to get chicken feed and game bird feed. Those baby quail eat like crazy, and double in size every week!
