WOW.. a busy week. You would think having a day off (Monday) that I would have gotten at least a little rest... nope.

There is alot of stress at work as there are changes in education that require much more paperwork and testing and tracking of student progress. All of these are time consuming and trying to work in actual teaching time is causing frustration. I could get on my soap box about the public perception of what teachers actually do.. but the one change I would require is a parent involvement component. I rarely see any of my parents -- no concern until I say they are going to fail 4th grade.. by then, it is too late for most improvement.. I say every parent should be required to get involved with their child's education.. get their butt up to the school to see what their child is doing and even more-- WHAT they can do to help their child.

okay.. now for a more enjoyable topic..my chickens. I have a few eggs due to hatch today.. and more this week.. the life of a hatchaholic. My eggs for the Valentines Day hatch are arriving and I have two sets heading out today - bound for their new homes. One person wanted quail.. so those eggs leave Monday. I am counting to see if I have any room in the incubators before going to the auction tonight. My favorite seller is bringing some welsummer eggs (I always have a great hatch % from his eggs) and I want some very badly.. so think about me today as I candle the eggs not already on lockdown -- to check for any open space...

If I can just squeeze in a dozen.. maybe two..

Getting ready for the storms.. tornado watch till 1:00 pm.. rain is coming.. let me get the animals fed before it gets bad.

OOHH I almost forgot.. bought a trio of Blue Silkies with one broody hen and her clutch of eggs.. lifted her last night to see one chick hatched (super quick check) so I need to check her again this morning and see how many babies we have.. I think there were 10-12 eggs.. I am excited!!

Never a dull moment here on the farm. My neighbor offered to critter sit while we go to Florida for a few days next month to see the grandkids. IDK if I will be able to go because the goats are all pregnant and due to kid any time. Plus I may be bottle feeding if Nina has triplets like last time. I sure would like to go.
My Bator is full and I have more packages coming, must break out the styrofoam bators. No body sells hatching eggs at our auction because no one pays more than what eating eggs would bring so why bother? Lucky you, Shelly! I have a fish tank full of. Baby quail, must go check the Hatcher again . Deb

Hi everyone, Deb plz don't throw me out, LOL, for commenting on this lament.

Shelly, I serve on school council ( not school committee) and my pet peeve is that I feel like my schools do not want parents involved. I would love to hear your input on how to get more parents involved. I'm frustrated with trying to work with my kids' teachers and often get the brush off. Sorry , I can get really ripping about this subject. I will shut up now. I do understand you have a HUGE amount of work. I wish parents could work hand in hand with the teachers, to lift some of the load off the teachers and improve the student's learning.

Okay back to chickens-- all my boys with single combs have frost bite on the back section of the comb. Noticed today the SSH also has some damage. None of these boys will let me catch them so I'm not sure how to prevent this when our weather has been hitting 8 degrees far more nights than usual.. That's what I get for being thrilled about a nearly snowless winter. Extra cold nights are the payback. It snowed all day today. Pretty but the chickens don't enjoy it at all and crowd under any overhang, except their coop! It's a tougher first winter with chickens than I anticipated.

Thanks for listening to me vent. I must be more tired than I thought as I'm up late checking for lambs.

You can comment on anything you want dear! I think parents should be involved too. My Mom was a teacher, and I almost became one but they wouldn't accept my BS from Canada here when I applied for the bridging program.
Today we finished the coop we were working on and I caught all the chickens and put them in there. Set up the feeder, waterer, and lamp. They were loving pecking at the grass in the run! Now if they just get busy and start using the nest box! Took a few Polish pictures....
