The medication is Monensin , but I don't think you can feed it to sheep because it contains copper. It can kill horses, and it says not to feed it to lactating goats but I have had them get some with no ill results. The medication helps prevent coccidiosis.

Tonight I am kind of bummed out. I went and checked on one of my broodies and she had hatched a chick, but it got out of the nest box and got cold and died. seems like she stays with the eggs, and the chicks wander off. This is the second one. I take the eggs if I see them pip, but I am so busy I am not always there. Anyway, I put the light closer to the ground so hopefully if it happens again the chick can stay warm until I discover it. Then I was moving trays in the incubator and got interrupted by a phone call and forgot to put a whole tray in that had already been incubating so I killed 48 eggs.
Happily, I got all the young birds out of one pen in the barn and into the empty grow out pen. If my back felt better, I would have cleaned out their old pen, but it is still bad. I feel like it is never going to get better. I took a hot bath tonight around 8, climbed in bed and fell asleep. When I woke up to feed the kids, Snickers had gotten chilled and did not want his bottle. Why they chose to lay on the concrete instead of in the hay I have no idea. I brought him in and snuggled for an hour. Then I had to go milk the goats again.
Had a guy come and look at goats today. He plans to buy an adult doe and two kids. So he is interested in Jillian, maybe next week. He did buy three chickens while he was here, so that is good.
I am just feeling like I can't keep up with all of it, need to cut back I guess. And DH wants me to finish my tax calculations, yuck! Oh, did I tell you I got poked in the eye with a stick? I don't recommend it.

sounds like a bad day, hope it will get better!

LOL,well i dont reccommend getting a hole in your toe either

Thanks, Arielle! Snickers got chilled and didn't want his bottle last night but took it this morning. He was shivering a bit so I brought him in and bundled him up. We sat on the sofa for a while watching a movie. DH says, just put him outside in the sun. But it is cool out there, and I wanted him warm now. Last night I got a lot of sleep, but I am still feeling lazy today. Soaking in the tub feels great.DH went out to chop some limbs that fell on the fence. I need to go milk goats soon. Guess I need to put a bigger dog cage in the garage to keep the kids in at night. At least Nivea was good about getting milked last night. I hate to throw out milk, but it is full of antibiotics so not great to give the kids.

I can just see Snickers laying on the sofa while you watch! A year a go I had a couple lambs in a box in my room for about 2 weeks. Until they were strong enough to be climbing out and becoming a pain. Clearly well enough to go back to mom. With a little persuasion she did. D sorted the sheep today, moving moms and lambs to a transition pen. Lots of baaing as lambs learn to find mom among the flock. Moved the last 4 preg ewe up for closer watch.

Started up the LG yesterday. Watching the temps as it was sort of malfunctioning last year. Checking a couple eggs for fertility. The Easter Hatch along is approaching quickly.

Worked on chicken saddles today. My boys are helping. Would really like for them to learn how to sew. A little machine sewing and then hand sewing to set the snaps. Figured if the saddles were for their beloved chickens they would give sewing a try. Strike one up for Mom.

Snickers was actually laying on me, and I was laying on the sofa. Good excuse to rest. I finally milked out the medication in Niveas teats, so I let the boys go back to her today. Still waiting on Bunny to kid.
Worked on cleaning the garage a bit today, and the danged taxes

. DH finished a stand to hold a bucket with water nipples for the chickens, so that will go in the grow out pen. He started working on the frame for the creep feeder. Packing eggs tonight, to ship tomorrow. Going to get my teeth cleaned tomorrow

Must go down and check the birds in the barn, and Bunny.

Deb, you are one busy lady! Hope all goes well for you today. The BA chicks that I hatched from you back in November are doing well. And you're not going to believe my luck. There's 1 roo and 4 pullets! Oh happy day!

Thought you'd like to hear that. Have a good day.

Hey, love hearing about the grandchicks! You did get lucky to hatch a nice flock like that. I can't even remember how long I have been trying to hatch BLRW. First a single rooster, sold him. Lately I have hatched a few but IDK what sex yet.
