Only as Strong as the Weakest Point

I would think you have them in Conn.

Got a great shot on the game camera - bear was looking into the camera (very close) when the flash went. Sure he saw spots for a long time - out nights are very dark and the bright light had to blind him for a while . . .

I have heard and seen that the most likely place for a chicken to get attacked through wire is in the corners--they pack into the corner and don't run away. On my first coop, I made all the corners solid, or very much wire reinforced. Need to do something like that with the run, also. Tons of coons around here (saw the neighbors dog tree one in my yard yesterday) but I have not had a problem yet. I hope I have not been just lucky so far (Hope all the latches, wire, aprons, etc... are paying off).

Good idea making the corners solid, I have heard the exact same thing.

WE do have bears in some parts of CT, your right. Just recently there was a sighting down the road 4miles or so, but thats a rare occurance.

I wouldnt think a fox could climb, hmmm. Good to know.

Thanks guys! This is great!

What are the recommendations for hawks when your birds are free-ranging?

Just this weekend we had a problem with two of them (that we saw). Although they didn't come down, they were circling and I had to run out and lock up the girls.
What's great is that the girls saw/heard them also as they were looking up and came running in when I called them

We live in the suburbs, with neighbors and noise, but it doesn't seem to deter them.

I have thought about hanging CD's out there, but we do have an inground pool and I am thinking that the glare is out-weighing the CD thing.

Can anyone suggest anything else besides keeping the ladies locked in?

So if I had a pretty tall wooden fence, with the supports on the inside so that the racoon didn't have any footholds, that wouldn't deter them? What if I put an elec wire around the top?
