Only been 3 days & already im planning an expansion!!

We picked up our coop up Saturday, first 4 chicks sun & 2 more today!!! We r hooked!!! I love these gals!

We picked up 4 chicks on sunday (2 easter eggers, sexlink & silver lac wyandotte) theyre 3 weeks, & today picked up 2 RIRs, who are 4wks old, i just put them in brooder together, no fighting persay but the original 4 & the 2new rir arent really going near each other i kinda feel bad for them, they also seem to be under heating lamp alot, which should technically be about 5degreea too hot for them?! Theyre super loud too, chirpy...is that normal for rir? Btw its been less than a werk & im already planning coop expansion for next spring lol i really want these chicks to be more pets than anything, my kids are obsessed!!! Theyre 3 1/2 & almost 2, how much interaction should i allow yo let chicks be comfortable around the kids? Come summer wed like the chicks to b free range

If it's only 3 days, I'd say you have a serious chicken addiction. Hope your coop is big enough because you will continue to add birds. Nobody here will try to stop you.

You do realize when you free range birds, you will lose some to predators and even some 2 legged who will chicken nap them. I mention that because it's usually the favorite ones that go first.

Hello and Welcome To BYC! Sounds like chicken math at work! Be sure your brooder has cooler spots also, so the chicks can pick the temperature they need and so the RIR aren't overheated, if they are brand new they are probably upset about the whole moving thing and hopefully are just complaining about that.
