I've had my 6 chicks since April 2nd so they are about 8 weeks old. I've learned so much from this group and I really enjoy having chickens.
Both my husband and I work full time and some nights I don't have much time so I'll do my chores and feed all the animals and call it a night. But there are those nights that I like to take my time and play ball with the dogs or whatever. Last night I took one of my chicks out of the coop/run and let her loose in the horse corral (coop is attached to my barn) I figured she wasn't going anywhere with the rest of the chicks on the other side of the fence. I cleaned, I gave everyone mealworms then went in because my dinner (that I had in the oven) was almost ready. While we were eating I mentioned I was learning about fermented feed and I wanted to try it, I've been doing an overnight soak. Well my husband proceeds to go on about how I'm complicating things and doesn't know why I can't just throw some food out for them like everyone else and how much more work I'm making for myself.
With all my animals I try to care for them the best way I can. I even get the best I can for the goldfish in our pond. I really don't see it as a burden to soak food or even cook for my dogs, it's what I enjoy doing for my animals.
If this labels me as crazy oh well crazy as a loon I guess.
